To register for most of our classes, click on the name of the class to complete the
registration form.  We accept payment through Paypal, cash or checks, or pay with a
credit card over the phone or in person.  
**Classes and workshops require advanced registration.

Open Studio

Drop in and make some art!  Choose from a selection of fine-art materials including painting,
drawing, collage, found-object sculpture, or your own.
All ages as appropriate, must be able to work independently
(or with assistance from parent/guardian/support staff).
Call ahead for seating availability.   

Tues – Fri 12:30-3:30
Friday evening 6:30–9:00, Sat 1-3;
$5 includes most materials (clay and canvas extra); all ages.
 


Hopes, Fears, and Experiences of Being a Teen
Group Art Program

Students will use art as a way to communicate with each other, build relationships,
uncover the strength we have within, and have fun!   The goal of this program is to assist
pre-adolescent and adolescent children through developmental stage and social issues by
creating an identity within a safe environment, teach coping and social skills, while also encouraging
students to set personal and academic goals.
 Preregistration one week prior start date & referral required.
Ages 12-16; taught by Jamilya Williams, WSU Art Therapy Intern.
**Art activities will be amended for returning students.

11 am -12:30 pm

Additional dates: 6/23-7/28, 8/11-9/15
$17 material fee
*on 6/23 only - group will start at 11:30 and run until 1 pm.

This 6 week program is made possible in part with funding from the MCACA
through the Oakland County Office of Arts, Culture and Film.
 
Life Drawing

LIFE DRAWING opportunity!  Non-instructional. Limited space available.
Please prepay by calling or visiting the studio to reserve your space by Friday April 20.  
Easels, tables, drawing boards available.  
BYO drawing materials.
Format will be traditional - we will begin with brief gestural poses
& build up to a longer pose, approx. 1 hour.

Acrylic Painting Workshop

A fun workshop for those with little or no painting experience.  The emphasis will be on enjoyment in
painting, finding confidence and inspiration to begin or continue painting.  All materials provided.  
Artists will be led though this landscape painting by Kathy Cassell, artist of 15 years.
Pre-registration required one week prior to class. $26, ages 17 and older. Choose from a selection of dates:

MORC pARTies

Monthly art parties for adults with developmental disabilities who utilize MORC services.  
Join us for an evening of art-making, fun and refreshments. Facilitated by art therapists.

Water-Based Oil Painting

Explore the materials & techniques of water-based oil painting; a great chance for beginners or experienced
artists to learn without using the harsh solvents of traditional oil paints.  Students will study color, composition,
& materials. Students are to provide their own materials & must have them for the first class. Traditional oils are
welcome for students who prefer to use them. Taught by Carolyn Masnari, BFA, art educator w/ 15 yrs.
Experience, professional artist of 30 yrs. Pre-registration required one-week prior to workshop and/or class.

The Wonders of Poetry

Come to learn how fun words can be! Discover how ordinary words can turn into an extraordinary journey.  
Over three sessions, students will get to write various forms of poetry, such as metaphor, simile, lira and more
along with writing a poetic summary of a music CD!
Taught by Keri “Bean” Welborn, TAE Board Trustee and poet.
Pre-registration required by April 18th.  

Wednesday April 25th – May 9th (3 weeks), 4:00-5:30 pm
Ages 10 and older; $25 materials included.
 
Art Journaling Demo

Learn about what art journaling is about, see a demonstration and prepare a page using art journaling
techniques. Come play and see if this is something for you.  Pre-registration required by 5/7/12.  Bring your
own journal or use paper provided. Taught by Sue Nimlin.  

Wednesday May 9th, 6:30-8 pm.

Art Journaling Class

An art form that everyone with basic hand skills can do: cut, paste, hold a paint
brush, pen, or pencil. It’s fun, it's easy and sometimes surprising how well the spontaneous
activities tap into your inner wisdom. Art Journaling is great for those who want to let go of
doing everything perfectly; an opportunity to let your inner child play and give yourself some
regular time to be creative. Learn techniques for preparing pages, using masks, shadows, & doors that open
and close, adding extensions to a page, incising, stamping, embellishing, etc. Registration required by 5/16/12.
Class is limited to 8 students. Take a beginning class, then join us in Open Studio time for on-going sharing.
Taught by Sue Nimlin, retired occupational therapist and lifelong artist.

Wednesdays May 23 – June 20 (no class June 6)

(journals and gesso not provided, spiral-bound, 8x10” or larger journal suggested)

Deconstructed Books

Come learn the art of the altered book.  Capture memories, personal experiences or concepts; they can be a
personal keepsake, a treasured family book, or an art piece for display. Whatever the design, an altered book
will create a lasting impression on all that experience it. Altered books can invoke a sense of creativity and
spontaneity in their maker, and are just fun to create!  Students will need to bring their own hardcover book
(<1” thick), and other personal items they would like to include in the book.  Taught by Sarah Van Voorhis.  
Pre-registration required by June 12.

Saturday Circle

Would you like to discover, resolve, or heal patterns of self belief that disrupt your potential? Saturday Circle is
an art therapy approach using creative and mindful processes to achieve your goals toward increased self-
awareness and enhanced emotional well-being. Students should bring a journal, notebook or sketchbook for
reflective writing.  Led by Marie Murray, MA, LLPC, Art Therapist.  
Pre-registration required by 5/26

Visiting Van Gogh  

In this class you will hear Ms. Masnari’s take on the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh as revealed by the letters
to his brother Theo.  Students will complete a piece of art based on the style and technique of Van Gogh.  A
template and materials will be provided.  Come find out about his bold brushstrokes and inspiring colors!  
Pre-registration required by 5/8.  

Tuesday May 15th, 7-9 pm, $20, ages 8 and older
 
Sunshine Art

We will begin playing with line, color and shape to see how they all get along.  Using drawing and painting
mediums we’ll explore our own unique ways of using each on paper and canvas.  Young artists will complete
three projects.  Taught by Judy Wilson, M.Ed. Preregistration required by 6/18.

Double Dip

Jump into either or both weeks of this extraordinary, creatively stimulating experience.  Young artists will
sharpen their skills guided by our professional staff in a positive environment where each artist sets
individualized artistic goals.  Small class size so sign up soon! Quality art materials are provided.  Taught by
Denise Thomas, M.Ed.  Registration accepted up to one week prior to the start date.

Drawing: July 16-19, $8 material fee

Creativity Club

Looking to mix up the routine?  Come have fun, create, and play with a new art form each week.  
A class for adults with developmental disabilities to explore various art processes, socialize, and express
themselves through art ALL WHILE HAVING FUN!
Facilitated by Ester Mauricio, LBSW, MS. Pre-registration required.

Activities include creating multi-media paintings, group puzzles, working with clay, and more!
