Welcome to the New Year!

We have been hard at work looking ahead to making 2017 our biggest and best yet. Anyone who knows an artist knows the tendency to accumulate. Add to that the generosity of others wanting to donate, and we have accumulated more! We have been cleaning up, organizing and streamlining.

Out goes the old crusty paint, yucky brushes, abandoned art work, carpet, and in with the new paint jobs, new furniture, and display space! In order to keep things we’re going to need your help, too. There will be new studio policies in place to help maintain the organization, which will ultimately allow for The Art Experience to maintain focus on its mission. Thank you to our board members and volunteers for their help!

  • Co-founder Marilyn Secatch and Board Trustee, Megan O'Dell work on sorting paint and foam brushes.

Speaking of how we’re maintaining focus on our mission…  Our Artist in Residence program has gone digital! Our website (also a part of our organizing and streamlining process) has a link to our site on Etsy where we can market and sell the work of our artists who work regularly in the studio. It acts as both a catalog of their work, and as expansion of our walls and gallery space. Renard, for example, who has been with us for over 15 years, has framed pieces, matted pieces, and un-matted pieces, as well as note cards on our Etsy site. He is one of the most prolific of artists we know, creating 3 pieces per week, on average. That makes approximately 2340 pieces of work by Renard that are in need of a home! Commissions are welcomed!

Along with our Artist in Residency program, we’ve also established our projects for this year’s Art Parties. Each second Tuesday of the month, staff of The Art Experience, Art Therapists and/or supervised students of the Art Therapy program, facilitate an evening of art and socializing for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. The program starts at 6:30 pm and includes light refreshments. The evening usually wraps up around 8:00 pm, and is only $5. See the Courses page to find out more, and register easily online.

Being a community studio, we welcome your feedback. What do you think? Do you want to be involved? Let us know that, too!

We wish you and yours a 2017 full of creativity!  – Audra
